During our Spring Fair we will have a toy and book stall, bric-a-brac stall, tombola, raffles for adults and children and a cake stall. If you could donate to any of these stalls it would be greatly appreciated.

We are holding our Spring Fair on Wednesday 31st March 2010 from 1.00 - 3.00pm, this is a family event and we ask that you accompany your child. We have various events for all of the family. Tickets cost £1.50 per child (adults free) and this includes juice, crisps and a turn on a number of our activities, extra attractions will also be available at a small charge. Please note: only children who purchase a ticket and have an accompanying adult will be allowed to enjoy the fair - unfortunately children without an adult will stay in class and not take any part. We hope to see you all there.
Your child's class teacher invites you into school on either Tuesday 23rd or Wednesday 24th March from 3.30pm onwards to talk through your child's progress. Appointment charts will be outside the classrooms from Tuesday 16th March so anyone who would like to come along can sign up to a time slot.
Our Reception children would like to invite their families into our school at 10.00am on Thursday 18th March to join them in an activity in their classroom. We hope to see you all there!

Our Year 4 children invited their families and friends into school to join in with some fun activities during our 'Chocolate' topic! We dressed up as characters from 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.'

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Haiti appeal through our non-uniform day, we raised over £220 for the appeal.
The Valentine's Disco Tickets are now on sale at a cost of £1.50 and are available from the school office - we have booked G-Force this time so it's not to be missed! Hot dogs and a tuck shop will be available on the night. The Disco is being held on Tuesday 9th February from 5.30 - 7.00pm. Staff will be on duty during this event so adults do not need to stay with children.

SAMARITAN'S PURSE APPEAL
We collected 34 shoe boxes for the Samaritan's Purse Appeal which were sent off to Kazhakstan.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 invite all families and friends into our school at 2.00pm on Wednesday 16th December to sing 'Carols Around the Christmas Tree'.
Our Year 3 & Year 4 children are holding their Carol Service at Bedlington Colliery Methodist Church at 10.00am on Wednesday 16th December. All family and friends welcome.

School will provide a drink of juice for all children, could parents please provide some food. So we have a variety, could boys please bring sweet items and girls bring savoury. Thank you. We raised £336.16 for Children in Need this year, thank you once again to all those who returned their smartie tubes filled with money.
A big thank you to everyone who donated shoe boxes for the Samaritan's Purse appeal, our school managed to send 34 boxes which are now on their way to Kazakhstan.

Tickets are now available for our Christmas Fair & Disco. Tickets cost £1.50 per child under 13 (accompanying adults free) and are available from the school office. PLEASE NOTE: Children must be accompanied by an adult at this event. We would appreciate any donations for our raffle, tombola and cake stall.
Our children in main school are holding their Christmas performances altogether on two occasions but due to health & safety regulations places are limited so please complete and return your application for tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment (forms available from the school office).

All parents and friends of Stead Lane are invited to our 'Eco Coffee Afternoon' on Wednesday 11th November at 2.15pm. There will be no charge for coffee, but donations are welcome to go towards sponsoring our tiger in Bengal.
This will be a great opportunity to view samples of children's work on display around school and meet Lorna Blenkinsop, Waste Education & Recycling Officer, to talk about our Eco-Start Project.

Our Year 3 children are opening their own café. The children will be making their own produce to sell in the café, such as muffins, smoothies and flapjack. All parents/carers are invited from any children in our school and if you visit the café your child will be allowed out of their class to join you for an afternoon snack. We are supporting the 'Fire Fighters Charity' while raising money for our school by taking part in a recycling scheme. As you bring your children to school on Thursday 11th June there will be a van parked in the main school driveway waiting for your items to be recycled. We ask that you put any unwanted clean, dry clothing, sheets, curtains and towels into one bag and shoes, belts and handbags into another then bring them to school with you on this day. On your way into the school grounds you can then load them into the van - you get tidier cupboards, the 'Fire Fighters Charity' receives a donation and so do our school! So please clean out those cupboards! (Please note that because of lack of storage space, school cannot accept any bags before this date). Thank you.
Trinity Youth Association have organised a disco to be held on Wednesday 10th June from 5.00 - 6.30pm. Tickets for this event will cost £1.50 and are available through our school. If your child is interested please call at the school office with your payment where you will be asked to complete a consent form and receive more information. Our Year 2 children have been invited to attend a Dance Festival at Blyth Community College during the morning of Friday 27th March 2009. To take part in the festival they need white t-shirts, black shorts and a bottle of water - all with names on please. We are holding a dress rehearsal on Monday so would appreciate it if you could send the shorts and t-shirt into school on this day. Thank you.

As a staff, we are very keen to reward good work and celebrate excellent behaviour. Following the Easter holidays, we will be introducing a new 'house point' system at Stead Lane. The children will be divided into four 'houses' or teams. Each week merits will be earned for good behaviour, effort, work etc. Individually children will work towards earning Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates. Collectively each team will be competing to win a house treat which the children will choose.
TEAM NAME COMPETITION
We have chosen a 'Space' theme for our teams. Each team will be represented by a different coloured rocket. And now for your cooperation - can you or your child think of four imaginative names for our teams. If so, please complete the slip attached and return to school. A prize will be awarded for the winning suggestion
Our Healthy Tuck Shop is open on Friday 13th March. If your child would like to purchase a healthy item at break time please send 20p into school with them on that day which your child must hand to their teacher on arrival in exchange for a token. The token can then be exchanged for various healthy items which include fruit, fruit salad and toast, all of which were requested by you and your children via our survey. If we have a good response on this day then our Healthy Tuck Shop will be open every Friday break time.
We would like your child to come to school dressed in red, with a wacky hairstyle next Friday 13th March and in return we ask that they make a donation of 50p or £1.00 to Comic Relief!
Our Year 4 children would like to invite their families into school at 10.00am on Thursday 12th March to take part in their activity morning. This term our children have been learning about a number of challenges that face Africa today. The children would like to raise money to send a charitable donation to help other children less fortunate than themselves. As part of this enterprise they will be selling refreshments during the morning. We hope to see lots of our families there to help this worthy cause.

Our Year 2 visit to Holy island is on Monday 2nd March. Please remember all children will need to wear warm waterproof clothes and suitable shoes for the visit. School uniform need not be worn. Any child who suffers from travel sickness must take medication before leaving home in the morning. If your child has not already ordered a packed lunch from school they need to bring one from home. If we have not already received your consent slip please return it with your payment on Monday as your child will not be allowed to travel without it. Thank you.
Thank you to all parents who attended our fundraising event on 12th February, we raised £253.28 which will go towards buying waterproofs and wellies for most children.
We still have some unclaimed raffle prizes so please check the lists on Nursery and Reception doors to see if you have been lucky - all prizes must be claimed on or before Friday 6th March 2009.
There will be no Homework Club on Tuesday 24th February as Mr Jones will not be in school that day. If your child usually attends please collect them at 3.00pm. The club will resume the following week. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

As described in last week's newsletter, recent changes in the curriculum have meant that all children in Nursery and Reception are spending a great deal of their time outdoors in all weathers. We appreciate that most of our parents provide warm, waterproof clothing but that it can be distressing and time consuming to keep this clothing dry and clean. In order to overcome this problem we would like your help in raising some funds to buy waterproof trousers and coats for all our foundation stage children. We would like to invite you to our fundraising day on Thursday 12th February. We will be holding 2 sessions - one at 10.30am and the other at 2.00pm (we are aware that there are other events on at this time so we would welcome your attendance at either session).
We would also welcome any donations you can provide for tombola and raffle stalls.

Following the success of our coffee morning this week, we look forward to an excellent turn out for our parent classes which start next Thursday, 9.00 – 10.30am. A free crèche facility is available on site for parents with pre-school age children.
Our Year 2 children are visiting Holy Island on Tuesday 3rd February. If you have not already done so please return the reply slip to school as we need your consent to take your child out of school. Spare copies are available from the school office.
We would like to invite our Reception parents to a workshop on Tuesday 3rd February at 9.30am in our conservatory. During this session parents will be shown some strategies that are used in school when teaching early reading skills and some useful tips on hearing your child read at home. Any worries or questions you may have about reading can also be addressed at the end of the workshop. We hope to see you there.
Recent changes in the curriculum have meant that all children in Nursery and Reception are spending a great deal of their time outdoors in all weathers. We appreciate that most of our parents provide warm, waterproof clothing but that it can be distressing and time consuming to keep this clothing dry and clean. In order to overcome this problem we would like your help in raising some funds to buy waterproof trousers and coats for all our foundation stage children. We would like to invite you to our fundraising day on Thursday 12th February. Your support would be greatly appreciated as would any donations you can provide for a tombola and raffle. Next Friday, 30th January, Nursery are having a ‘Creative Day’ and would love you to come along and have some fun with your child. You can make junk models, paint, draw, build things out of lego – whatever you and your child would like to do together!
To enable you to have as much fun as possible, learning and playing with your child we’d appreciate it if you could make alternative childcare arranements for younger brothers/sisters.
Please let Mrs. Mallin or Mrs. Athey know if you would like to come. Could parents/carers please arrive at 10.30am for our morning Nursery session and 2.00pm for our afternoon Nursery session. Please bring children at their normal starting time.

Northumberland Life Education Centre bus is coming to our school on 4th and 6th March. The bus will be here to deliver Health Education programmes to your children and on Friday 6th March at 2.30pm you are invited on to the bus to find out what your children have been learning.
As part of our topic, next week our Year 1 children will be spending some time looking around our local area.

We are in the process of planning a visit to Newbiggin for Monday 12th January for our Year 1 children. Your child will receive information regarding the visit on our first day back.

School will provide a drink of juice for all children, could parents please provide some food. So we have a variety, could boys please bring savoury items and girls bring sweet except Nursery who will be informed by Mrs Mallin or Mrs Athey of what to bring. Thank you.
Children are allowed to come to school in their party clothes on those days or they can bring them to change into.
Our main school children will hold their Christmas performances on Thursday 11th December at 1.00pm and Friday 12th December at 10.00am. PLEASE NOTE: Tickets are needed for both performances so please apply for tickets via the school office. Thank you.
Just a reminder for the parents who paid for their child to attend the Christmas performance of Hansel & Gretel at the Northern Stage, the visit is on Wednesday 10th December. School uniform must be worn for easy identification. The bus will leave school at 9.10am and return in time for lunch.

Our annual Christmas lunch will be held on Wednesday 17th December for main school children, please complete and return the attached form so Mrs Armstrong knows how many children to cater for.
We are holding our annual Christmas Fair and Disco on Friday 5th December from 5.00 – 7.00pm. Tickets will cost £1.50 per child (children must be accompanied by an adult at this event, adult goes free) and will be on sale at the school office from Wednesday 26th November.
As part of our Fair, we will have a raffle, tombola, toy sale and cake stall so if you could donate any items for these stalls, they will be greatly appreciated.
There are still tickets remaining for our Christmas Craft Morning on Thursday 27th November at 10.30am. Why not come along and enjoy a cuppa and a mince pie while helping your child to make a Christmas craft. Tickets cost £1.50 per adult (children are free) and are available now from the office.

We had a great time during our 'Looking After Ourselves' Week. There were different activities each day to enjoy!
All of next week is ‘Looking After Ourselves’ week at Stead Lane and the children will be taking part in various activities so will need their full P.E. kit every day, suitable for indoors and outdoors. We are always trying to encourage the children to eat healthily and next week will be awarding the healthiest packed lunch with a prize. We have various leaflets to share with parents/carers and these will be displayed every day at 3.00pm in the hall.
We are holding a Halloween Disco on Thursday 23rd October from 5.30 – 7.00pm for children in main school. Children may come unaccompanied but must be collected by an adult. Tickets cost £1.50 and are on sale now from the school office. Refreshments will be available to purchase during the event and fancy dress is optional but there will be prizes for the best dressed.
