Bedlington Road Safety Week

Bedlington Neighbourhood Policing Team is holding a Road Safety week in the Bedlington area between Monday 21st and Saturday 26th November 2011.
During the week there will be a number of initiatives going on in the town and the week will finish with a fun family event in the car park adjacent to Bedlington Library (Glebe Road). This will be held on Saturday 26th November, 11am-3pm.
One of the initiatives planned is to take groups of Year 4 pupils from several of the Primary schools in the area on a series of safety walks throughout the town. This will be to educate the children on the hazards of the road and the safest ways to walk/cycle when out in the dark evenings.
The short walks will be on designated planned routes near to the school and they are aimed at raising road safety awareness amongst the pupils. The children will be accompanied by their teachers, Police Officers/Community Support Officer's and other members of school staff and chaperoned at all times. They will be provided with high visibility vests and a mini traffic lollipop which the children have painted themselves.
Photographs will be taken throughout the walk and will be displayed on a board by the Mobile Policing Unit at the event on the Saturday showing the community the results of the week.
Parents are to contact the school if they have any objections to their child being in these photos.
