Newsletter 10.09.10

WELCOME BACK
Welcome to the first newsletter of the new school year. I hope that for everyone - children, staff, parents and governors - it will be a happy and successful one. We have a busy time ahead of us all and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible during the term.
I am really excited about being Acting Headteacher. I am so proud of this school and all of our children. It is an honour and a privilege to be able to lead our school forward as I feel so passionately about all of the great work that we do here.
Some of our new Reception children have joined us this week and they are making a terrific impression. We are also pleased to welcome two new teachers to our school, Miss Haywood and Miss Stephenson and we all hope that they enjoy being a part of our school.
As usual there will be a lot going on this half term so please keep an eye out on the newsletter and notice boards around school for upcoming events.

HEALTHY TUCK SHOP
Our 'Healthy Tuck Shop' will begin again next Friday 17th September. We will be offering the children toast, smoothies and dried fruit boxes each costing 20p. The children must hand their 20p to the member of staff in their classroom as soon as they come into school and tokens will be distributed to them prior to break time. The children will be limited to a maximum of 3 tokens each so please do not send any more than 60p. (Healthy Tuck Shop for our Reception children will not begin until later in the term.) Thank you.

P.E. DAYS
Reception - Monday & Thursday
Year 1 - Tuesday & Wednesday
Year 2 - Wednesday & Friday
Year 3 - Wednesday & Thursday
Year 4 - Tuesday & Thursday
Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit in school on these days. Thank you.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KIDS - NUMERACY
Following the success of our literacy course last year we are holding a numeracy course for all parents/carers of children in our school on Thursday afternoon beginning on 30th September from 1.15 - 2.45pm. (Unfortunately there is no crèche available this time). Anyone who is interested is invited to come along on Thursday 23rd September at 2.30pm for more information. Please inform the school office if you will be there. Thank you.

BOOK FAIR SAVINGS SCHEME
We will be holding a book fair at the end of November and to help you and your child benefit from this we are running a saving scheme where your child can bring money into school each week and receive a sticker to stick on their card, each sticker is worth 20p so the amount saved can be anything from 20p per week. Why not start early for Christmas and save now to buy books as gifts! Don't forget we receive commission for our school funds so the more you save and spend, the more it helps us buy new resources. If you and your child would like to take part in the scheme please call at the school office for more information. If you have already begun saving, don't forget to keep it up!

INTERNET SAFETY
As you may know our school uses CyberSentinel to help protect your children online and now this software is available to you at home free for one year. Please visit the CyberSentinel website for more information and to download your free copy at www.cybersentinel.co.uk. You will need our school voucher code which is NB012104.

WHEELY WEDNESDAYS
To help promote a fit and healthy lifestyle we would like to encourage our children to cycle more. We are setting up a scheme where if they cycle to school on a Wednesday their name will be written onto a raffle ticket and placed in a box in their class. At the end of half term a child's ticket will be drawn from each box and that child will win a prize. We hope as many children as possible will join in. Happy cycling!
