NEW MOBILE CLASSROOM
You may have noticed our new mobile classroom arrived over the Christmas holidays. This term we are working hard to fit out the classroom so that we are ready for business after the Easter holidays! The room will be used for intensive small group support. I am aware that a number of parents are concerned about the potential tripping hazard of the flag stones on which the building rests. We share your concerns, however have been informed these flags cannot be 'cut back' as this could affect the stability of the building. Therefore I am in the process of taking quotes to build planters and seats around the flags which will make a welcome addition to the playground and ensure the health and safety of our children.
'KEEPING UP WITH THE KIDS' - PARENT NUMERACY WORKSHOP
Following the success of our literacy sessions last year, I have arranged a series of numeracy parent workshops for the summer term. These will take place on a Tuesday morning 9.00 - 10.30am for 8 weeks, with a free crèche available in school. The course is geared at helping parents to support their children in maths, especially as many of the methods used to teach children maths today have changed since we went to school! More details to follow.
ANTI-BULLYING WEEK 29th March - 1st April
This term we are organising a bullying awareness week to help our children understand what we mean by 'bullying' and to develop potential strategies to combat this. Teaching staff have been working hard to review our school anti-bullying policy and procedure this term and we would welcome the views of children and parents. Therefore there will be an anti-bullying parent workshop on Monday 19th March at 2.00pm, led by Rhona Wilson, Consultant for Behaviour and Attendance.
You are also invited to our 'Anti-bullying' class assemblies at the end of the week, when children will be sharing their work. These will be held on Thursday 1st April:
• Years 1 & 2 - 9.10am
• Years 3 & 4 - 2.00pm.
Older children may go home with parents following the afternoon assembly.
PARENT'S EVENINGS
Your child's class teacher invites you into school on either Tuesday 23rd or Wednesday 24th March from 3.30pm onwards to talk through your child's progress. Appointment charts are outside your child's classroom so anyone who would like to come along can sign up to a time slot.
PARENT QUESTIONNAIRE
We look forward to seeing many of our parents in school next week for our termly parent consultation evenings. When you attend, you will also be asked to complete a short parent questionnaire. As a school we value your feedback to help us understand better what we are doing well and areas which could be even better!
