Our children enjoyed learning about the environment in school during 'Eco Week'. Visits included Plessey Woods and Rising Sun Country Park. Children also enjoyed a range of activities within school from decorating cotton bags to making music using junk instruments. Congratulations to those children who were winners of our junk modelling competition and received prizes in our celebration assembly. Everyone made a great effort dressing in green on the Friday and we raised a lot of money to sponsor a tiger in Bengal from our cake sale.
Our Nursery and Reception children received a letter from Peter the Pixie asking them to help clean up the school grounds so it is safer for the woodland animals.
Lorna Blenkinsopp from Northumberland County Council came in to Year 1 to talk about saving the environment by reusing and recycling which also helps wildlife in the Rainforests. We all decorated our own reusable bags to take home.
Our Year 2 children were involved in a workshop looking at recycling and reusing. We looked at lots of different types of rubbish and worked out whether they were recyclable or not.
Year 3 tested the soil around our school for contamination to check if it was safe for wildlife.
Year 4 visited Plessey Woods to learn about the conservation of insects and wildlife.
On Friday we had a celebration assembly and we all dressed in green and brought cakes in to sell and raise money to sponsor a tiger in Bengal.
